Falafel

Falafel is a fried ball or patty made from spiced fava beans and/or chickpeas. Originally from Egypt, falafel is a popular form of fast food in the Middle East, where it is also served as a mezze.

Ingredients

Falafel is made from fava beans or chickpeas or a combination of the two. The Egyptian variation uses fava beans exclusively, while other variations may use only chickpeas as in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria.

Serving suggestions

Falafel can be served as an appetizer with hummus and tahini, or as a main course. Stuff pita bread with falafel, lettuce, tomatoes, tahini, salt and pepper. As an alternative, falafel can be formed into patties and served like a burger.
